Fresh Hope works to benefit not only the mothers and children that enter their program, but the general community as a whole. Fresh Hope’s contribution to the local community, to date, has been both practical and financial.
Practical - With the successful return and rehabilitation of the mothers into society the community has benefited financially and has gained responsible citizens.
Financial - ‘Fresh Hope’ uses the services and products of local businesses to meet their daily requirements, generating monetary return to the local community.
It was documented by the Alcohol Drug Council of Australia (ADCA) in 1992 that the economic cost to the community through the misuse of drugs was estimated at $18 billion due to dysfunction in the community, crises housing, family benefits, parenting allowances, medical expenses, and criminal activities. This figure reached $32 billion in 2000.
As a direct result of the work being conducted by Fresh Hope, savings have been made in Government resources such as emergency housing, health, foster care and dysfunctional behavior. These savings will continue due to the successful return of the mothers to their local communities. By the time Fresh Hope mothers graduate, they have also paid all fines imposed due to prior convictions for stealing and other misdemeanors, in full. Upon graduation, our mothers have learnt to work and shop instead of stealing.
Australian Institutions
The impact of the work being done and the results achieved by the Fresh Hope Program has gained widespread recognition with residents being referred to ‘Fresh Hope’ from many different institutions across Australia. These have included:
|
|
Local Medical Practitioners
Fresh Hope has the support and understanding of local medical practitioners and psychiatrist who regularly make themselves available to our mothers and children. They are immediately available if any crises should arise.
Local Producers
With a large number of orchards and flower farms in the area, Fresh Hope mothers are regularly employed for the seasonal work. Our mothers are accepted without prejudice, and upon graduation and re-entry into the community as responsible citizens, they continue to be employed.
Local Businesses
As a not for profit organization, Fresh Hope does not receive any state or federal government funding or resource assistance. It is through the generosity of community businesses that Fresh Hope is able to help many mothers and children to find a brighter future. Fresh Hope acknowledges and thanks the following businesses for their continued support:

“Karen and I feel very humbled by your support for what we do at Fresh Hope. We acknowledge that without everyone’s support, both great and small, in so many varied ways, we would not be here today.
To give you an idea, since 2003 Fresh Hope has received $185, 317.96 in funding for a mix of items. These have included: money towards the deposit of the present fully owned property, car, bus, 3 car garage, air conditioning, childproof fencing and shade area, ride on mower and gardening equipment and funding for the policies and procedures to be brought up to government standard. In addition, another $200 000 has been raised through fundraising events.
What a time of blessing it has been”
